Ants
Ants are some of the most common and most annoying pests. There are many unique species of ants that you may encounter, but they all share some similarities.
Ants live and work in colonies containing thousands of ants. They can nest anywhere, including stumps, lawns, walls, and foundations. Often, they are attracted indoors in the pursuit of food or water. If one ant finds something of value, such as food crumbs, they recruit other members of the colony to follow them and return the food to the nest.
It’s most common to find ants in kitchen or pantry areas where food and water are plentiful. If they have identified your home or business as a reliable food source, you could be dealing with a full-blown ant infestation.
How To Prevent Ants
You may think that killing any ants you see will prevent other colony members from following them. This isn’t entirely true. Ants leave a pheromone trail behind them so other ants can follow whether the first is dead or alive.
The best way to get rid of and prevent ants is by eliminating their entry points and removing their food source.
- Seal off any cracks or holes in walls, around doors, and near windows
- Clean up spilled food or liquid right away
- Frequently vacuum or mop floors
- Keep food sealed tightly in pantries or cabinets
- Rinse out bottles or cans before throwing them in the recycling
